IV. State by State Chart of Prostitution/Commercialized Vice Arrests |
II. Methodology | V. Definitions |
III. National Arrest Chart |
| | |
| The National Arrest Chart below details the number of arrests in 19 U.S. crime categories including "prostitution/commercialized vice" from 1994 to 2004. The Prostitution/Commercialized Vice Arrests By State Chart itemizes the arrests of prostitution related crime by state where enough data were available for an estimate. |
| The data below were presented in the 2006 report "Easy Access to FBI Arrest Statistics 1994-2004" by Charles M. Puzzanchera, et. al of the National Center for Juvenile Justice (NCJJ) for the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention (OJJDP) which is a component of the Office of Justice Programs of the Department of Justice.
The data orginated from the Uniform Crime Reporting (UCR) Program within the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The FBI provides their annual data files containing agency-based arrest counts to the National Archive of Criminal Justice Data (NACJD) within the Inter-university Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR) at the University of Michigan. The NACJD aggregates agency-level counts to the county level, and then applies an estimation procedure to compensate for the underreporting and nonreporting agencies within the county. States with less than 90% reporting are labelled as N/A (not available) in the State by State Chart of Prostitution/Commercialized Vice Arrests for not having a sufficient amount of data to make an estimate. The definition of the criminal categories in the National Arrest Chart are provided in Section IV: Definitions. |
